Q. How are cases referred to Tyler's Justice Center for Children?

A. All cases are referred to the Center either through Law Enforcement or the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Q. I know a child who may have been sexually abused. What should I do?

A. In Illinois, you should immediately call your local law enforcement and the DCFS Hotline,  
1-800-25-ABUSE. If the incident occurred in a different state, please call Child Protective Services in that state. If you are unsure of who to contact, call Tyler's Justice Center and we will help you. We are all responsible for reporting abuse to the authorities.

Q. How can one tell if a child has been sexually abused?

A. There is no one behavioral change that is a positive indicator of sexual abuse; they can be very difficult to detect. Some children exhibit marked changes in behavior because of sexual abuse. Other children may not display any changes in behavior. If a child tells you of abuse, do not further question the child. Be supportive and contact someone identified above. Do not try to investigate on your own. Let us help you and the child.

Q. Where is Tyler's Justice Center for Children located?

A. Our Center is located at 400 West Front Avenue Stockton IL 61085. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 - 4:30. We are always available in an emergency. If you have an emergency, contact the Center to receive directions for emergency services.

Q. Is the Center a non-profit corporation?

A. Tyler's Justice Center for Children is a non-profit tax-exempt 501 (3), incorporated in Illinois.

Q. How is Tyler's Justice Center for Children governed?

A. Our Center has a Board of Directors that is comprised of individuals from each of the three counties the center serves: Carroll, Jo Daviess and Stephenson. The Center is an accredited member of The National Children's Alliance, which monitors and mandates the highest standards of best practice.

Q. How many employees does Tyler's Justice Center for Children have?

A. We have 3 full-time staff: Executive Director/Forensic Interviewer, Program Coordinator/Family Advocate, and MDT Coordinator/Forensic Interviewer.

Q. How is Tyler's Justice Center for Children funded?

A. We are funded through the State of Illinois, local grants, donations and fundraising efforts.
